This is the dealer that sold me my IS-F, so they know how much I make. I THINK that’s the reason that they’re ok with letting me test drive this, despite the fact that I’m not planning to buy for months, maybe over a year. It’s a 7 speed manual and in my area, which is the only reason I’m checking it out.
I want to see if I drive a C7 and wind up just hating it, so I can reorganize my buying plans. But aside from a 718 Cayman S, (current front runner is a lightly used Z06 2LZ) I’m out of other ideas.
If Oppo has suggestions for what to look for specifically in this make and model series, lemme know. Otherwise, I’ll post some comments later.
If it’s noteworthy.

If you can, please look at the trunk space. Do you think a full set of wheels (with tires) could fit?
I’ve always seen these as a great “autocross road trip” machine, but it’d have to be able to carry a second set of wheels internally, such that there’s one set of all-seasons for street & highway driving, and a set of relevant competition tires for the events.

I’ve seen a few towing tiny trailers with track tires on them, so I’m thinking they don’t fit inside without pulling the passenger seat.

What’s the deal with Corvette test drives? Your case it’s favorable because of reasons you mentioned. I have read that some dealers make a big scene like it’s a Ferrari and need deposit/ credit checks and what not. I mean I’m talking about the regualr C7 forget the grand sports or Z 06s . The same engine is in the Camaro Ss which I was able to test drive no problems. Do you have to show them that you’re more serious? because I sure ain’t.

How'd it go? I would check for scrapes on the nose and overall condition. Shouldn't be much wrong with a car that new.

I realize it sounded like a humble brag when I wrote it and I'm sorry. I'm not a dickhead in real life, but I can't figure out why else they would let me.

I was going for self-deprecating humor. I'm not the type of person to scold people for working hard and having things they like.

The trunk is not very deep, just wide. I don't have a banana pic for scale, but I don't think you'll get anything bigger than a set of thin 18s in there without using the passenger seat too.

Honestly the red paint did not shine well and while there were no obvious flaws with the interior had a rattle point which we couldn't locate. The interior itself is serviceable but you get the sense of why it costs what it does.

It’s onlt a guess, but I think that Corvettes are probably in that tire kicker sweet spot where deprecated ones turn out just a scooch pricier than most people’s comfort levels. I think also in America they are highly covered “exotics.” So like a Mustang GT but only a few tax brackets up, so demand is high but then the ones who are weak at math find out it’s a no go after all, and they tend to be on the showroom instead of the lot. So put all that together and it’s probably a waste of time for 90% of the leads they hear about. I didnt wind up buying today after all. Also, my wife quite likes how the Z06 looks, I found out today.

Good to know. Might try my luck sometime but have to wait for a used 2014 or something that a dealer doesn’t care as much as a brand new z06 for exmaple. by the way...

7-speed manual? What is the H-pattern like? Does it have the bitch slap to get between ranges?

Hmm. That’s too bad. I doubt the Callaway AeroWagen hatch would make enough of a difference either.

The pattern from left to right is, 1-2 3-4 5-6 7-R.
I noticed the throw from 1 to 2 is a bit vague and the throw into 6 is long due to reverse being next door. The rest of the shifts had consistent range and wer e easy to hit. I missed a few 1-2s initially and 7-6 a few times as well.

Ive seen the Callaway hatch and while it’s interesting, the glass is still at an angle and the shelf isn’t as low as your standard transverse front engine scenario. I should have taken pictures, but I found a Z06 about 25 miles away and will take snaps of that.

This is my short take on the Stingray:
The interior was definitely not near luxo caliber. The parking brake, start stop button, and most of the dash felt very flimsy and plasticky, and I never thought I would notice or care.
The suspension settings for the driving modes are pretty straightforward. Eco , Tour, Sport, Track and Weather (not tried, but tried the rest) determines ride quality and engine noise. Eco quiets the engine significantly but doesn’t noticeably retard engine performance. Maybe that’s the case with the manual more than the auto which I haven’t tried . The amount of ride noise that is transmitted also differs highly depending on mode. In all modes, you hear the road more than you feel it.
There are speed bumps on the road to the dealers and my Lexus has to take them at 5 mph. The C7 handled them at 15-20 mph with way more grace.
At 16k miles, there was an untraceable rattle in the interior which also bothered me more than I t hought it would. The subwoofer was loud when turned up, but while in traffic I could not figure out the stereo configuration software. The gauges are all digital, which was handy when going into track mode, and also showed what gear I was in which was nice for when I screwed up the 1-2 throw or the 7-6 throw, both of which were mildly vague and longer than the others. Clutch up take is moderately high up on travel and I had to adjust my seat to get my legs in the right place for the contact sweet spot . The driver’s seat is electric.
The 1LT does not have nav (didn’t miss it) nor could I see any semblance of a HUD. Rev-matching also seemed to be off. I figure I just couldn’t puzzle out how to turn these things on in the 10 minute drive they allowed me to have.
The visibility out is good for a modern car. A pillars were not as intrusive as my Lexus, and the sightlines through the windshield are actually decent. You can even kind of see out the back window, but I would not be happy to reverse without a camera on. Backup camera is standard and reasonably clear . The 1LZ does not have a front mount camera.
The hood is a foot longer than my IS-F from glass to bumper, but in the car the hood is easy to place and not intrusive at all.
Those were all the noticable things.
What I liked: cabin visibility, good seats, digital gauges, third pedal (I’ve missed you!) Ride quality, engine response and speed even without forced induction. Ride roughness is quite good. The car feels very quick and with the manual feels significantly quicker than my IS.
What I didn’t like: cabin still feels a bit cheap, the trunk is more lip service to space but not as big as a regular trunk, two golf bags and and two overnight bags. 1LZ is missing some tech stuff the better trims would have. Ride noise is very prominent. I don’t think this car despite the decent condition was worth their asking price of 48k.
AMAA and sorry I didn't take pics. I'm bad at that, will work on it.
